GETTING THERE
Metered parking is possible out front. Likewise, there's free parking around the corner, but finding a space can be difficult. If you are just stopping in very quickly, you're welcome to risk parking in the Bell Market lot next door. The 48 Muni line stops just down the street, at the corner.
PAYMENT
POPULAR DRINK
I go with black coffee. The La Donna blend is a particular favorite.
UNIQUE DRINK
Try a seasonal drink, like the Pumpkin Pie Latte during Fall and Winter holidays.
FOOD
The food is the single small downside to Bernie's. There is nothing "wrong" with pastries exactly, but they're merely of the so-so variety filling the cases and counters of most of the city's coffeehouses -- a problem hardly unique to this establishment.
SEATING
You will find a few different options here. There are a couple of larger tables ideal for setting up your laptop and taking advantage of the free wi-fi, a few smaller tables good for hanging out or reading, and a couple of big chairs if you really want to let the time slip by. There are three benches outside.
AMBIENCE/CLIENTELE
Occupying a spot that previously housed a Tully's outlet on a long, slow fade, Bernie's ("a local girl's coffee shop", as it's known) quickly became one of the top joints in Noe Valley. It is very relaxed, unpretentious, and true to local roots. Most importantly, you can expect a fine cup of coffee. Bernie herself will often be working the counter. The kids' corner with books, toys, chalk and chalkboard, and crayons is an added bonus for those with little ones, and the service is consistently excellent and friendly.
