UNIQUE DRINK
Most bars in this Lakeview/Lincoln Park neighborhood are traditional in the sense of Irish, American, Karaoke.but Star Bar is actually a champagne bar. Their list is extensive, and you will often see couples or groups celebrating with a bottle or two (or three.).
FOOD
There is food, but it is on the pricey side, and somewhat
limited. I've sampled the cheese platter, which comes with crackers, fruit slices, and nuts.but it will cost you around $12. Worth every penny, if you are looking to compliment your wine or champagne without a heavy meal attached, and there are several cheeses to choose from. Star Bar also serves brunch on Sundays (along with every other neighborhood bar in this area) from 10 AM-2 PM. The brunch menu is short and sweet, but doesn't lack quality.I recommend the lox platter, which is a huge portion that
includes the lox, bagel slices, cream cheese, and fresh
tomato. Another favorite? Eggs Benedict over crab cakes. Average brunch entrée is $8-$12.
SEATING
Seating at the bar is for approximately 10-15; tables in the front of the bar seat approximately 15-20, and the cozy booths along side the bar seat about 20-25. Additional seating in the back caters to at least 10. Bar
stools are actually more like chairs here, and are stylish
in keeping with the starry eyed theme of this watering hole-a starburst is cut out of aluminum/ metal on the back of each seat. Tables up front are standard 4- seaters, and mainly appeal to groups and couples that care to catch a glimpse of passer-bys and endless taxis
rolling down Sheffield. The booths are roomy and cozy, and the seating in back caters to a more private crowd that wants to section off their territory.
AMBIENCE/CLIENTELE
Star Bar's sparkling personality and good looks create a casual yet simultaneously upscale atmosphere. You can easily sport jeans at this establishment, but leave your sneakers behind: heels and flashy earrings to spice up that denim works better here. Guys are clad in classic button down shirts and an occasional suit jacket here and there, but rarely is a sports jersey or sweatshirt spotted. Everything from Diana Krall to David Bowie is playing in the background here, and not only can you listen, you can feast your eyes on the several TV screens that suspend from the bar's ceiling. Crowd chatter gets loud, but not as loud as the music. Still, having a conversation isn't nearly as tough here as you'd think it would be, this bar gets packed on the weekends. The highlight of Star Bar comes in the winter months, when the establishment's fireplace roars in the back of the bar, nearby cozy seating and dim lights. This is definitely a place you'd want to be stuck at in the midst of a blizzard. In other not so cold months, the bar's interesting, star-themed light fixtures cast a charm of their own.never too bright, just enough light. This isn't the type of place that inspires you to drink a cold beer, although there are certainly plenty of options available, including my favorite, Stella Artois. Most of the crowd sips cocktails. favorites seem to be wine, martinis, and of course the signature champagne.
Extras/Notes
Unless you want to look like an out-of-towner, dress
classy.
